Peninsula Humane Society offers a variety of volunteer positions for adolescents, adults, and seniors. Volunteers may choose to interact directly with animals (e.g.,grooming or training dogs, feeding kittens) or to work in an administrative, clerical, or building maintenance capacity. Animals at the shelter may include dogs, cats, small animals (e.g., hamsters, guinea pigs), exotic pets (e.g., birds,lizards), and wildlife (e.g., birds, squirrels). Volunteer positions/areas generally include:

-Adult volunteers (18 and older) must commitment to volunteeering at least 2-4 hours per week for one year, with the exception of seasonal positions.
-Junior volunteers must commit to volunteering at least 2 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months. Volunteers ages 13-15 must volunteer with an adult (age 18 or older). Adults accompanying an adolescent must commit to 6 months of volunteering.
- Volunteers must purchase a "volunteer pack,"including a volunteer T-shirt, lanyard, and keycard/ID badge, for $30. Financial assistance may be available: please call to inquire.
- Spanish speaking adolescents and adults may volunteer if accompanied by someone who can translate for them (e.g., a Spanish speaking parent and their bilingual child).

How to Apply

You must complete a volunteer application and attend an orientation session before volunteering. Select your preferred orientation date; if your preferred orientation is full, there are generally "drop-in" seats available.
